23 people died in Azerbaijan from HIV-infection

Baku. Sevil Zeynalgizi â€“ APA. 23 HIV-infected persons died in Azerbaijan during the 6 months of 2011, AIDS Prevention Center told APA. 388 HIV-infected patients died in the country until now, 5 of them are foreigners.

303 persons were infected during 6 months of this year. 298 of them are Azerbaijanis, 5 â€“ foreigners. 213 of 298 registered Azerbaijani patients are men, 85 â€“ women. The number persons who passed to AIDS level during this period is 104, 2 of them are foreigners.

AIDS Prevention Center of Azerbaijan Health Ministry registered 2026 HIV-infected people in the country since 1987, when first case was identified, till July 2011. 2919 of them are the Azerbaijani citizens and 107 â€“ foreigners. 2392 of HIV-infected Azerbaijani citizens are the men and 527 â€“ the women. A number of Azerbaijani citizens passing to AIDS phase reached 804 in that period and 793 of them are Azerbaijani citizens.

From 1992, when HIV infection was first recorded in Azerbaijani citizen, till 2011, 798 out of 2919 HIV-infected people were registered in Baku and Absheron region, 2078 in other 54 administrative areas, the whereabouts of 43 have not been determined.
1831 people were infected via injection narcotic use, 746 heterosexual relations, 26 - homosexual relations, in 39 cases transmitted from mother to child, the way of infection of 276 is not known.
