He said strong earthquakes may cause fractures, but such quakes did not happen in that territory.

“Such quakes were not recorded in Shirvan. This fracture was not caused by the earthquake. In order to specify it seismic exploration work must be done, the depth of the fracture must be learned. When strong quake happens, it cleaves the asphalt, destroys the roads. The earth shocks there are weak. It happens everywhere,” he said.

Gurban Yetirmishli said earlier, weak quakes were not reported.
“A decision was made in the Soviet times to report only about the quakes with magnitude of 4 or greater. European Seismological Society passed a decision to report about the quakes of magnitude 3 and greater than 3. So, we are obliged to give information about the earth shocks that are not felt,” he said.
