A swell in the population of many countries is forecasted in the report dedicated to the World Population Day. The report’s authors came to a decision that the inverse tendency will be observed in Armenia. At present moment Armenia’s population is just over than 3 mln. The UNFPA research showed that the majority (68.3%) of 1139 Armenian families surveyed are not planning to have another baby. 16.4% want to have one more child and 13.6% found difficulty in replying. The survey revealed socio-economic conditions as the main reason behind unwillingness to have children. Besides, more Armenian women tend to choose career instead of family.

UN Yerevan Office’s expert Ruben Yeganyan noted, in turn, that the demographic situation is not in Armenia’s favor, since neighbor countries witness population growth.

UN Population Fund says that the swell in population was observed in Azerbaijan. UN says that starting with 2005, every year the Azerbaijani population increases per 1.2%. According to the report, the recent measures in Azerbaijan towards improvement pf health and poverty reduction are yielding fruits.
