“Azerbaijan is used as a transit country in the drug trafficking”. The Azerbaijani territories are used mainly on 4 routes: Afghanistan – Pakistan – Iran – Azerbaijan, Afghanistan – Iran – Azerbaijan, Afghanistan – Central Asia – Iran – Azerbaijan and Afghanistan – Iran – Nagorno Karabakh”, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the State Committee to Combat Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Turnover Ali Hasanov told journalists, APA reports.

Deputy Prime Minister said that the first 3 routes are noted in the UN reports: “We have raised a question for the noting of 4th route in the UN report. But they have not included it in the report. In general, though we attempted for including the narcotic plant cultivation in Nagorno Karabakh and the use of this territory as a transit in the UN reports, there is no interest in it, because the Armenian Diaspora has a great influence on this issue”.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that though the UN Vienna Office wanted to conduct monitoring on drugs in Nagorno Karabakh, Armenia was against it.

Hasanov said that the great part of drugs entering to the Nagorno Karabakh via Iran, are carried to Russia and other countries, other part is saved by themselves for use: “The sufficient measures are taken in Azerbaijan in order to solve this problem. About 2 tonnes of drug were seized by the Interior Ministry, about 1200 kg by the National Security Minster, 359 kg by the State Border Service and 300 kg by the State Customs Committee. 350 tonnes drug, growing by natural way, were seized and annihilated”.
