Final Declaration adopted at 9th Baku International Conference of Ombudsmen

Making a closing speech at the conference ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova said it is the first time that the officials of the European Ombudsman Institute, Asian Ombudsman Association and International Ombudsman Institute came together in the conference. The conference is of great importance in terns of informing the world about Azerbaijanâ€™s problems, cooperation in the field of human rights.

Declaration was adopted at the end of the conference. The declaration was adopted by Ombudsmen of Azerbaijan, India, Sweden, Moldova, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, Russia and its 12 federal subjects, Slovenia, Thailand, Ukraine and their representatives, International Ombudsman Institute, European Ombudsman Institute, Asian Ombudsman Association, UNESCO Office in Moscow, National Commission of Azerbaijan Republic for UNESCO. The declaration covers establishment of the norms that will ensure the rights of the migrant workers, improvement of the regional and bilateral cooperation to ensure the rights of the migrants, national minorities, refugees and internally displaced persons, determination of the normal, fair and humane conditions for the international migration of workers, protection of the cultural diversity and the cultural heritage of the national minorities, prevention of discrimination with respect to them.

The declaration also underlines the necessity of adoption of universal and regional international contracts that will regulate the prevention and elimination of illegal international migration, importance of adoption of effective national legislative acts to ensure the rights of migrants and national minorities, cooperation of national human rights institutions with the legislatives body, promotion of intercultural dialogue, cooperation among religions, nations.
