17 specialized institutions to be closed, 2000-2300 convicted to be released in Azerbaijan

Baku. Shahriyar Alizadeh – APA. “There are 17 special penitentiary institutions in Azerbaijan and after the abolishment of custodial restraint those institutions will be closed”, Deputy Justice Minister, chief of the penitentiary service Medet Guliyev said stressing that these specialized institutions created conditions for bribery, APA reports. “There are 2000-2300 people in custodial restraint and they will be released after the adoption of relevant law”.

Guliyev said there were 24 disabled among the convicted people and they would be provided with prosthetic appliances and documents about their disability.

He said prisoners suffering from diabetes were provided with dietary products. According to the chief of the penitentiary service, all staff members of the service are under 65. “Most aged employee is 58-year-old. Some pensioned off employees were dismissed because not meeting of office requirements. Even young employees, who can’t fulfill official duties, are pensioned off”.
