Baku. Shahriyar Alizadeh – APA. Seven penitentiaries are being built by the Justice Ministry. The women’s penitentiary will be opened soon, chief of the Penitentiary Service Medet Guliyev said, APA reports.

According to him, the penitentiaries are provided with necessary funds by the Azerbaijani government.
“We are doing our best so that these funds are spent for its intended purpose,” he said.

Guliyev said penitentiaries under construction in Shaki, Ganja and Baku will be opened first.
“Gobustan penitentiary does not meet requirements. Moreover, as it located in the territory of Gobustan preserve, it will be relocated soon,” he said.

Guliyev said chiefs of some penitentiaries were pensioned off, since they failed to fulfill their duties.
“Chiefs of some ten penitentiaries were pensioned off. This is not connected with the age limit, they were pensioned off as they failed to fulfill their duties. Some were dismissed, since they committed actions undermining the image of the Penitentiary Service. The prosecutor’s office is carrying out investigation concerning the corruption in Gobustan penitentiary and a proper decision will be passed,” he said.
