Azerbaijan conducts inspections in markets due to E.Coli infection in Europe

Head of the toxicology laboratory of the state phyto-sanitary control service under the Agriculture Ministry Yagub Ibrahimov told APA. He said the service experts were examining the cucumber samples taken in the markets now. â€˜We examine other products, but most inspected product is cucumber. We examine nitrate and other fertilizer remains in the vegetables. No serious facts have been identified yet. Some of our citizens may be infected abroad and then arrive in Azerbaijan. We have to take measures against such cases tooâ€.

Ibrahimov said local, Turkish and Iranian cucumber is sold in the markets now. â€œAll imported vegetables enter the special zone at first and samples of these products are examined by our experts. We have two laboratories â€“ toxicology and expertise. Diseases are identified by the expertise laboratory. We examine change in the composition of the products as wellâ€.

Chief of Azerbaijani Health Ministryâ€™s sanitary-epidemiological control sector Viktor Gasimov told APA that necessary control and examinations are being made.
â€œNo dangerous fact has been revealed. The employees of the State Customs Committee and State Border Service are working. We will be informed, if any doubtful fact is revealed,â€ he said.

Health Ministry does not consider it necessary to recommend the people to restrict travels to foreign countries.
â€œThis infection can spread via dirty hands and dirty vegetables. So, the people must obey the principle â€œclean hands, clean vegetablesâ€,â€ he said.

Azerbaijan Airlines has started preventive measures in connection with the infection spread in Germany. Service chief of Azerbaijan Airlines Maharram Safarli told APA that no virus was found in the passengers from Germany.
â€œPreventive measures are being continued,â€ he said.

24 died of enteric infection in Germany. One died in Sweden. A woman, who came to Georgia from a foreign country, died yesterday.
