Baku. Kamala Guliyeva – APA. The Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) will conduct archeological researches in the Caspian Sea’s Azerbaijani sector, chief of the Institute’s Absheron archeological expeditions Idris Aliyev told APA. According to him, for the last time the archeological researches in the islands of the Caspian Sea were conducted at the 1960th. The researches were stopped after it. Only the exploration works were conducted in the islands in the Caspian Sea in recent years.

Aliyev noted that the archeological researches conducted in the sea can be a key for undersea archeological researches: “last year our specialists steered a course for submarine work as part of State Border Service under the auspices of Ministry of Culture and Tourism. That is we have several specialists for working in the Caspian Sea. The main problem is an equipment problem. If the equipment problem is solved this year, the archeological researches in islands and under sea can be conducted rapidly form the next year”.

Expedition’s chief said that a rich archeological treasure is expected to be in the Caspian Sea: “Ancient Mughan city in Salyan, ancient port in the south of Absheron, Bayil castle are under water. Azerbaijan is a rich country with submarine monuments. Baku bay is a real history”.
