Azerbaijani Minister of Health attends 64th session of World Health Assembly

Baku. Sevil Valehova – APA. Minister of Health Ogtay Shiraliyev attended the 64th session of the World Health Assembly. The ministry’s press service told APA that the session was held in Geneva, Switzerland. Director General of the World Health Organization Margaret Chan made a report on the first day of the session. Director General spoke about the recent achievements of the organization, methods of struggling against newly-discovered infectious diseases, large-scale immunization, determination and achievement of the health targets in the Millennium Development Goals, methods of struggling against AIDS and application of the antiretroviral treatment, elimination of a number of infections, investments by the member states in healthcare and social spheres and about its importance.
Director General spoke about successful results of child and mother’s health protection and settlement of health issues in the incidents occurred in Middle East, as well as struggle against infectious and noninfectious diseases. She underlined the importance of globalization of struggle against noninfectious diseases and its reference to all WHO regions.

After the plenary meeting the Assembly continued its work in A and B Committees.

The committee A discussed the issues concerning the effective use of medicines in the treatment of malaria, the situation of health in the Palestinian territories and the destruction of natural medicinal resources. The committee B discussed the program carried out in the fields of health and budget, the 11th general working plan for 2006-2015
