Baku to host 18th session of UNESCO’s International Bioethics Committee

Baku. Victoria Dementieva – APA. Baku will host the 18th session of UNESCO’s International Bioethics Committee. APA reports quoting UNESCO’s official website that the meeting will be held at the invitation of the Azerbaijani government.

The issues of human cloning and international governance as well as the traditional medicine and its ethical implications will be discussed at the meeting.

Moreover, an entire day will be devoted to “Bioethics in Eastern Europe: Experiences, perspectives and new ethical challenges”.

According to the program, UNESCO goodwill ambassador, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva, Director General of the organization Irina Bokova, Chairman of Bioethics Committee Donald Evans and ANAS President Mahmud Karimov will deliver a speech in the opening of the session.

UNESCO’s International Bioethics Committee was established in 1993. The International Bioethics Committee (IBC) of UNESCO is a body composed of 36 independent experts from all regions and from different disciplines (mainly medicine, genetics, law, and philosophy) that follows progress in the life sciences and its applications in order to ensure respect for human dignity and human rights
