Kemaleddin Heydarov: â€œThe vessels that will navigate along Kur River will be brought to Azerbaijan soonâ€

Nijat Mustafayev â€“ APA. â€œAs you know, the State Agency for Water Reserves under the Ministry of Emergency Situations has been established according to the order issued by President Ilham Aliyev. The agency conducts the management of water reservesâ€, Minister of Emergency Situations Kemaleddin Heydarov told journalists, APA reports.

He underlined that there was not any flood threats in Azerbaijan now: â€œThe water-level in Mingechevir water basin is 78.2 meters now, but it reached 82 meters last spring. The water reserves were under the control last year too, but it was uncoordinated work. There is no problem on flood and flowage in Kur River. Only in some regions the rise of ground water is observed. But there is no sign of flood threat. We can surely say that there will not be any floods in Kur River this year. As you know, we opened a branch of Araz River last year, because the above norm water was drained to the water basin before. The opening of Araz Riverâ€™s branch was very necessary and important. If there is tumultuous water flow to Araz River, we will manage water reserves using the flood-gatesâ€.

The minister said that population is concerned about the fact of ground water rise: â€œWe have already decided to purchase vessels which will always navigate along Kur River. The first such vessel will be brought to Azerbaijan soon. The vessels, which will always navigate along Kur River, will decrease Kurâ€™s depth to 1-2 meters, and to stop the ground water rise. At the same time, this step will prevent the flood in the rivers.â€

The minister said that new dams were constructed in regions at risk of flood and flow: â€œThe flood and flows that occurred last year softened the soil in some regions, but new dams are constructed in order to prevent it. Te construction of such dams in the regions are continued in order to prevent the damage to the population as a result of flood of mountainous riversâ€.

Heydarov said that the special attention would be attached to the management of water basins: â€œThe security and quality of the management of water resources of Yenikend, Shamkir, Varvara, Mingechevir water basins will be under the serious control. The action plan for cleaning of polluted water resources is also elaborated. It will bring results soonâ€.
