Problems of labour migrants discussed in Baku

Baku. Ali Ahmedov – APA-Economics. Today, an international conference on “Migration problems and challenges: Role of Trade Union” has started in Baku.

According to APA-Economics, the representatives of trade unions from different countries and international organizations, including International Labour Organization attend the conference. Regulation of processes, protection of rights of migrants in the foreign countries, their joining with trade unions, cooperation in the sphere of prevention of human trafficking and forced labour are discussed at the conference.

According to Chairman of Trade Union Confederation Sattar Mehbaliyev, 25% of foreigners in Azerbaijan are labour migrants. According to last year’s outcomes, registered 10,200 labour migrants from 92 countries operated in the country. Foreigners operate in oil sector, transport and construction complexes. They have come mainly from Turkey, Georgia, Russia, Iran, India, China, Great Britain and North Ireland, Ukraine and etc. Number of Azerbaijanis in abroad is near 400,000. 83% of them are in Russia, 5% in Ukraine, others are in Kazakhstan, Belarus, Georgia and other countries.
