Baku. Kamala Guliyeva – APA. Seismological situation is stable in Azerbaijan now, said vice president of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Akif Alizadeh, APA reports. He said Shaki-Shamakhi zone located in the Great Caucasus mountains and southern hill-side of the Great Caucasus, as well as Talish mountains were the most seismic active zones of Azerbaijan. He said he didn’t agree with the ideas that construction of multi-storey buildings in the seismic active zones was impossible. “The geologically sustainable buildings can be constructed in the most dangerous seismic zones. Azerbaijan can sustain 7-8 magnitude earthquakes. The country is located in the 9-magnitude seismic zone”.

Alizadeh said several seismic stations were conducting monitoring throughout the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline. “Sometimes the newspapers are writing about the seismic threat to BTC. It is not so. There are some seismic zones in the BTC areas, which are monitored now. There are such active zones in other areas of Azerbaijan too and therefore it wouldn’t be correct to raise the BTC seismic zones only”.
