4th international conference on â€œSeismicity of Azerbaijani territory and seismic risk of big citiesâ€ starts in Baku

Baku. Kamala Guliyeva â€“ APA. The 4th international conference on â€œSeismicity of Azerbaijani territory and seismic risk of big citiesâ€ has started in Baku today, APA reports. Vice-President of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Akif Alizadeh said the event was held in memory of former director of the Republic Seismological Service center Arif Hasanov. Scientists from Russia, Bulgaria, Greece, US, Georgia, Turkey and Uzbekistan are attending the conference. Alizadeh said the conference was of great importance for Azerbaijan and added that the country was situated in seismic active zone. Therefore, seismological studies, seismic service was always under the control of the state.
â€œAs a result of seismological studies, seismic regime of the entire Azerbaijan was determined. The link of mud volcanoes in Azerbaijan with seismicity was studied. Geological structure of Azerbaijan was fully studied. Azerbaijanâ€™s geological structure has been studied in 5-8km deep and it helps much in solving the problems of oil-gas search,â€ he said.
Director of Republic Seismological Service Center Gurban Yetirmishli said established in 1979 the center met the international standards.
Satellite, digital seismic monitoring systems have been installed in the center.
