On August 24, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, First Lady Ziroatkhon Mirziyoyeva and family members visited the Poyi-Kalon complex in Bukhara, APA’s correspondent dispatched to Uzbekistan reports.
The name of the complex means “At the foot of the Great.” One of its main monuments, the Kalon Minaret, was built in 1127.
The Kalon Mosque is the largest mosque in Bukhara. Built in the 16th century, the mosque can accommodate 12,000 worshippers at the same time.
The Mir-i Arab Madrasa in the complex is a religious educational institution. The madrasa was built in the 16th century by Abdullah Yemeni, known as Mir-i Arab.
