On August 24, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, First Lady Ziroatkhon Mirziyoyeva and their family members visited the Ark Fortress in Bukhara, APA’s correspondent dispatched to Uzbekistan reports.
The Ark Fortress was built in the 4th century BC. Its present appearance, however, was largely formed in the 17th–18th centuries. At the beginning of the 20th century, the fortress was used as the winter residence of the rulers of Bukhara.
The fortress currently covers an area of four hectares. A large part of it was destroyed in 1920. The Bukhara State Museum-Reserve has been operating on the fortress grounds since 1947.
