The memorial plaque on the facade of the house-museum of prominent Azerbaijani writer Jalil Mammadguluzadeh, located at 24 Besiki Street in Tbilisi, has been vandalized, APA's local bureau reports.
The word “Azerbaijan” written in Cyrillic script on the bas-relief was scribbled over with a white marker, rendering it illegible.
Isak Novruzov, Chairman of the Council of Azerbaijani Elders of Georgia, which oversees public control of the museum, told APA’s local bureau that he was not aware of the incident.
APA's local bureau also informed the Azerbaijani embassy in Georgia about the issue. The embassy said that the issue has been taken under control and that the damage to the inscription on the bas-relief will be repaired.
Note noted that Jalil Mammadguluzadeh’s house museum in Tbilisi was opened in October 1998. In recent years, the building has been in an emergency condition, and the museum is not currently operating. Last year, with the support of the Azerbaijani side and the Tbilisi City Hall, the foundation and main walls of the building were reinforced. Wall-strengthening works were also carried out in two rooms belonging to the museum. The next stage involves the restoration of the museum.
