Nine people who appeared before a court as part of the investigation into the shipwreck off the coast of Kyrenia in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus have been remanded in custody, APA’s Türkiye bureau reports.
As part of the investigation, statements have been taken from more than 100 people.
The captain and crew members stated in their testimony before the court that the bow of the vessel broke off due to the waves, after which the vessel capsized.
Note that 241 people were rescued and eight were killed after a ferry carrying 267 people capsized off the coast of Kyrenia in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on August 30. Search and rescue operations for 18 people are ongoing.
