WB wants Azerbaijan to become regional ICT center

According to Ministry, speaking about relations between WB and Azerbaijan, the minister said the WB actively supports the works carried out for creation of market economy in the country, establishment of modern infrastructure, development of financial sector.

Speaking about relations between WB and Finance Ministry, especially Project on Development of Financial Services implemented under the support of the bank, the Minister said that a condition was created for development of financial services by using existing platforms of Azerpocht, population in the villages and towns can use banking and financial services and noted he hopes the cooperation with the WB will continue in the next years.

Prasad noted that the visit aims to discuss the outcomes and issues determined on Azerbaijan’s Diversification Report, exchange opinions. She underlined that effective works on the ICT, telecommunication, internet, satellite industry and etc were carried out in Azerbaijan and the successes in this sphere contributed not only to Azerbaijan, but to region too: “The diversification in ICT sphere is appreciated for diversification of common economy. The WB supports the diversification on three directions as reforms of physical capital, human capital and state institutions. Just these directions are praised as factors to provide the durability of the economies of the countries”, she added.

Prasad also spoke about recommendations on ICT in Azerbaijan and noted that mainly three directions – enhancement of domestic demand, becoming of Azerbaijan regional ICT center and development of regulating environment and on the agenda.

Note that the report will be sent to the Ministry of communication and Information Technologies and final recommendations will be submitted to the government.
