Baku. Vahab Rzayev – APA-Economics. Deputy Minister of Communication and Information Technologies Elmir Valizadeh has met with the senior economist at the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia Mona Prasad. According to Ministry, Prasad made diversification report on projects and expectations by the World Bank in Azerbaijan’s information-communication technologies sector.

Mentioning quicker development of ICT sector in the country than other regional countries, Prasad appreciated direction of oil incomes to this sphere: “Canada and Norway are also oil exporters. But they have already changed to developed countries, as could develop the non-oil sector through oil incomes. But, there are many oil exporting countries in the world, that could not change to developed countries. We see that Azerbaijan targeted quick development and non-oil sector is preferred. We observe that broadband internet users increased and Azerbaijan leaved other regional countries behind for this index”.

In turn, Valizadeh said that competitiveness strengthened in domestic internet market. To develop this sector, State Fund for IT Development was established in the country.
