Proposed to build one more rail car building plant in Azerbaijan

Talks are underway with Urals Railroad Cars Manufacturing Plant (UVZ) of Russia, spokesman for Azerbaijan Railways Nadir Azmammadov told APA-Economics.

Azmammadov said one of the proposals made during the talks was connected with launching the enterprise in 2015.

The Russian company plans to construct a rail car building plant in Azerbaijan with capacity of 2000 rail cars a year.

Urals Railroad Cars Manufacturing Plant wants 50% share in the project, in this case investments by both sides are to be 20-30 million euros.

Russian experts consider that the opening of the plan will be favorable for Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway.

“Azerbaijan’s rail car park is old, 1500 rail cars need updating every year. It is planned to export the products of the joint venture to Georgia and Turkey,” he said.

Currently, it is planned to build a new rail car plant in Ganja. Modern rail cars will be produced and old rail cars will be repaired in the plant. The project is in the stage of preparation, its realization can be started in the coming months. Talks are underway with Stadler company of Switzerland to build the plant.
