Baku. Musa Ahmadov – APA-Economics. “Azerbaijan Airlines” Closed Joint-Stock Company (AZAL) launches flights from Azerbaijan to Ukraine as well as Kiev over the territory of Russia.

Moscow has not prohibited flights of AZAL planes to Ukraine through the Russian sky.

AZAL spokesperson Maharram Safarli told APA-Economics that they have not received such a notification from Russia. Therefore, flights continue in the usual routine: “This prohibition doesn’t pertain to us. But it does pertain to Ukrainian airlines. We haven’t received such a notification yet”.

As regards the Russian government’s prohibition on Ukrainian airlines launching flights to Azerbaijan over Russia, Mr Safarli said Ukrainian airlines can carry out their flights to our country through an alternative route--Georgia – the Black Sea – northern Turkey.

Note that, Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev stated that they had terminated the Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey transit flights of Ukrainian airlines through the Russian sky. It’s also said that the Kremlin is currently discussing the issue of restricting flights of European companies to Asian countries over Russia’s territory.
