Iranian Ambassador to Baku Mohsen Pak-Ayeen says relations between Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran are on a growing trend and at a desirable level.

He said the deep cultural, religious and historical commonalities between the two countries have led to the expansion of relations in many fields, but this trend should continue:” He said Iran and Azerbaijan have more than 380 kilometers of common border, which plays an instrumental role in the development of ties between the two nations. The Aslanduz border customs checkpoint will reopen in the near future.”

According to Pak-Ayeen, the required infrastructure has been developed for the Aslanduz customs checkpoint to resume operations there, and there are no obstacles to its reopening. “Azerbaijan welcomes the reopening of the customs, which will improve the living conditions and increase the income of the locals living on either side of the border, he said, adding that it will also contribute to the further promotion of bilateral ties.”

Horadiz-Aslanduz checkpoint had operated till 1993. The operation of the checkpoint was suspended, as Armenian armed forces occupied Fuzuli region.
