Azerbaijan to expand internet bandwidth by 4 times in coming 8 years

Baku. Agshin Rafigoglu – APA-Economics. Event on the outcomes of the Year of Information and Communications Technology and launch of Azerbaijan's first telecommunications satellite (Azerspace-1) has been held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.

Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov said that internet bandwidth is planned to be expanded by 4 times in the coming 8 years: “Internet speed will be increased to 20 Mbit/s in the regions and 100 Mbit/s in Baku and other cities in the coming 3 years.”

The Minister said that half of 417 services approved by the Cabinet of Ministers are currently being rendered to people in electronic forms and it will be 100% by 2020. Azerbaijan will be also turned into an exporter of electronic products by 2020. Azerbaijan will establish data centers and provide ICT services to neighboring countries.

Abbasov also said that the internet is very accessible and free in Azerbaijan. Internet freedom in Azerbaijan isn’t observed in any other country of the region.
