Working group on Model Highway Initiative project meet in Baku

Baku. Aynur Aliyeva – APA-Economics. The second meeting of the working group on Model Highway Initiative project was held in Baku, Transport Ministry told APA-Economics. Information was given about the work done by the member states for establishment of modern auxiliary road infrastructure, discussions were held on the draft intergovernmental agreement on Model Highway Initiative.

The role of international organizations, financial institutions and other potential partners in the realization of Model Highway Initiative, upcoming steps in the realization of Model Highway Initiative in the Central Asia and South Caucasus were also discussed at the meeting.

The first meeting of the working group was held in Izmir, Turkey on November 28, 2012, in connection with the implementation of the relevant clauses of the joint declaration signed by Azerbaijani, Turkish and Georgian transport ministers.

The meeting was attended by the representatives of Azerbaijani, Georgian, Turkish, Turkmen, Romanian transport ministries and relevant agencies. GUAM, TRACECA Secretary General, World Bank Country Manager for Azerbaijan, representative of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) to the UN, Secretary General of IRU member associations – ABADA and GIRCA, Romanian Association of International Road Carriers, Secretary General of Turkmenistan Association of International Road Carriers also attended the event.
