Baku. Ali Ahmadov – APA-Economics. The 10th meeting of the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names (UNGEGN) on Eastern Europe, Northern and Central Asia Division and meeting of the working group of the CIS Interstate Council on geodesy, cartography, cadastre and remote sensing of the Earth has today kicked off in Baku under the organization of the State Land and Cartography Committee of Azerbaijan.
The meeting has focused on systematization of geographic names, preparation of ballots meeting the modern standards, right reflection of geographic names in the maps, prepared by other countries, development of normative technical documents and etc issues.
Right use of geographic names in this sphere is very important issue for Azerbaijan. That is, Armenians distort and change the names of geographic names belonging to Azerbaijan.
That is why, the geographic names related to Azerbaijan must be systematized and reflected on the e-ballot of the UN.
The meeting has brought together experts from Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Moldova. The meeting is chaired by head of the UN office on Eastern Europe, Northern and Central Asia Division Vladimir Baginski.
