Azerbaijan attends World Conference on International Telecommunications

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. Today, the World Conference on International Telecommunications (WCIT-12), in which near 2,000 representatives from 263 countries participate, has kicked off in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, by the organizing of World Telecommunication Union.

According to Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies, the event will last 2 weeks and the draft International. Telecommunication Regulations, adopted in 1998 in Melbourne (Australia) will be reviewed. The conference aims to form new context of the regulations by bringing the representatives of WTO states, including private sector, proposals of NGOs and academy members together.

Broadband internet application, involving of more investments in this sphere, determination of global internet governance model, formation of united direction on cybersecurity, provision of transparency in roaming services and such other spheres will be discussed and new draft regulations will be adopted.

Azerbaijan is represented by delegation led by Deputy Minister of Communication and Information Technologies Iltimas Mammadov. In the second week of conference, Azerbaijani Minister of Communication and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov is expected to join the event.
