Shusha is implementing a model of urban planning based on cultural heritage, said Marcelina Zielinska, Director of the Board of Directors of the British company Chapman Taylor, while speaking at the III Azerbaijan National Urban Planning Forum held in Khankendi, APA-Economics reports.
She provided information about the essence of the restoration and planning works carried out in Shusha.
According to her, the master plan of Shusha is based on the principles of "Heritage Sensitive Master Planning" and the goal is to create a unity of new development with the preservation of historical monuments: "The goal is not only to preserve the heritage, but also to form a city that is both aesthetically and economically sustainable by combining it with modern development."
Zielinska noted that in the eastern part of Shusha, historical architectural and cultural heritage elements are being preserved and restored, while in the western part, modern residential neighborhoods, roads and new development zones are being created: “The eastern part preserves the historical spirit of the city, while the western part becomes the center of new development. This division serves to protect both the identity and the future of the city.”
She added that local and international experts worked together to implement the project, studying historical documents, archival photos and architectural examples: “This process was carried out with the participation of numerous experts, in accordance with international standards.”
