UN Under-Secretary-General: Azerbaijan is a regional leader in ICT sphere

Baku. Ali Ahmedov â€“ APA-Economics. World internet development caused wide discussions, said Wu Hongbo, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General.

According to him, Internet Governance Forum in Baku will allow discussion of development methods of information technologies: â€œOrganization of such forum in Baku is Azerbaijanâ€™s contribution to IT sphere. I believe that these discussions will support development of internet. More than 1/3 of world is internet users. Besides, mobile telephone users are over 6 bln. Mobile phones prices reduce, opportunities increase. This process is quick in the developing countriesâ€.

Hongbo noted that Azerbaijan was a regional leader in ICT sphere: â€œI believe that the works in Azerbaijan will support surrounding regionsâ€.

Minister of Communication and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov noted that the new rules in internet world had to be obeyed by all: â€œThere are new challenges in the world and these challenges will be discussed at the forum. Internet development also supports cyber crime. Therefore, we are ready for discussions and cooperation with interesting sidesâ€.
