Conference on Internet Governance held in Baku

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. Today, a National Conference on Internet Governance Forum was held in Baku by the organizing of Azerbaijan Internet Forum. According to APA-Economics, head of representation of IREX organization on Azerbaijan, one of the organizers of the conference, Angela Nicoara informed about the projects that implemented in the country and noted that, the projects were directed to usage of Azerbaijani population from internet services.

So, within the projects, mainly youths and women are invited to the trainings, internet kiosks are constructed for them and etc.

Isbendiyar Aliev, the head of the Information Society Department of the Ministry of Communications & Information Technologies of Azerbaijan spoke about Forum’s significance for Azerbaijan and stressed that, these events contribute to ICT sector. He also noted that, this sector played an important role in non-oil sector of the country.

ICT sector rose by 6 times, production quintupled during past 5 years. Generally, ICT sector was paid attention in the country. He added that, every 100 persons could get 110 mobile phones. At present the mobile operators apply the 3G services successfully. Besides, preparatory works are being conducted for application of 4G service.

Noting sharply decrease of internet prices in the country Aliyev said that, the price of 1 Mbit/sec was AZN 10, while it was AZN 258-300 in 2007.
