By the year-end AZAL will apply Azerfon mobile communication services in aircrafts

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev - APA-Economics. According to a joint agreement signed between Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), Azerfon and OnAir Company of Switzerland, by the end of this year, AZAL prepares to start applying in-flight mobile communication services on the basis of Azerfon mobile operator services and the relevant equipment of Swiss OnAir Company.

CEO of Azerfon Yurgen Pitz says from September, the abovementioned novelty will be applied in one plane of AZAL. But by the year-end all aircrafts of the company will use this advantage.

Note that, all the communication services of NarMobile will be available during the flight by plane AZAL, except for takeoff and landing process. This includes services such as conversations, internet, SMS, etc. Other mobile operators of Azerbaijan will benefit from these services by signing up appropriate roaming agreement with Azerfon.

After application, AZAL will be the first national airline of the first among the CIS countries to provide these services. The current fleet of AZAL consists of 22 aircrafts. Two more Boeing-787 Dreamliners, which Azerbaijan will purchase in 2014, will be given in readiness for the introduction of these services.

Mobile services will be available at a height of 3-8,000 meters. After launching of Azerbaijanâ€™s artificial satellite into the orbit, it will be able to use the infrastructure of the country, and the new service will be available at an altitude of 35,500 meters.
