Baku - APA-Economics. Microsoft has released an official report for their Q4 2012 earnings, and the results are a fairly mixed bag, with the tech company raking in $18.06 billion in quarterly revenue. The flip side? They still suffered a net loss of $492 million over the last three months.

By contrast, Microsoft reported a net profit of $5.87 billion during the same period last year. That being said, they’re staying positive about their financial wellbeing, with Windows 8 and their newly announced Surface tablet on the way. Additionally, revenue has gone up significantly over the previous two years, which yielded about $700 million and $600 million in 2011 and 2010, respectively. This year’s setback may also be attributed primarily "to a goodwill impairment charge of $6.2 billion" associated with the unsuccessful aQuantive venture.

Much of the revenue gain is credited to Microsoft’s Business and Server divisions, and while the Entertainment and Devices division didn’t bring in quite as much, it saw significant year-over-year growth, particularly due to their acquisition of Skype.
