Azerbaijanâ€™s ICT sector is expected to increase by 5 times by 2020

Delivering speech at the vent minister of communications and information technologies Ali Abbasov said that within this concept, GDP of Azerbaijan is expected to grow by 2 times by 2020 and rise from AZN 50 bn to AZN 100 bn. The increase is mainly considered at non-oil sector.

Speaking about the development of ICT in Azerbaijan, the minister noted that main targets in this sphere â€“ establishment of innovative economy, full switch to information society, introduction of new services in e-management sphere. To him, AZN 1.8 bn income was got from ICT sphere in 2011. This figure is expected to reach AZN 9.3 bn in 2020. In general, ICT sector is expected to increase by 5 times till 2020.

Abbasov stressed 3 main components on ICT development â€“ development of infrastructure, creation of special economic zones and catalyzer role of ICT in other sector: â€˜In order to reach this level, it is important o develop telecommunication, especially broadband internet. Azerbaijan is already ready to introduce 4G serviceâ€™.

Moreover, the minister enumerated the factors that limit export production on ICT. To him, high customs duty agitates the import. In fact, it is more important to agitate th exportâ€™.

Abbasov noted that by the end of this year, growth rate of ICT is expected to make 15.45, in 2013 â€“ 14.8%, in 2014 â€“ 14.4%, in 2015 â€“ 14.3%, in 2016 â€“ 12.8%.
