Azerbaijan starts application of Geographic Information System

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev â€“ APA-Economics. An event held today in Baku on establishment of work with the users and obtainment of statistic information on Azerbaijani regions via the Geographic Information System. Delivering speech at the event specialist of Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument (TAIEX) program of the European Union Alexander Kotsev spoke about the importance of GIS, works done in direction of application of the system.

â€˜We have arrive din Azerbaijan with 3 missions. Within the framework of the visits, we established close ties with the officials of the State Statistical Committeeâ€™s IT and Statistics departments and activated the mentioned systemâ€™ noted Kotsev.

He also said that those, who want to obtain statistic information via GIS, can enter the appropriate column on the website of the SSC and get any statistic information on the regions; â€˜The statistic information on cities and regions will be updated with quarterly and annual interval. The information will cover al the spheres; it will reflect the territory of the cities and regions, number of population, the main macroeconomic indicators and etcâ€™.

It was also noted that users of the statistic information can download the necessary information from the website by different files.

GIS is considered to put into operation within this year.
