Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA–Economics. Output of A320 single-aisle workhorse stays at 2012 Target amid global economic flux, the Wall Street Journal reports. Airbus shelved a plan to boost output of its popular A320 single-aisle jetliner, a sign that global uncertainties are starting to affect the otherwise resilient aeronautic industry.
Airbus executives on Thursday cited concerns about the global economy, the ability of airlines to finance purchases and the capacity of parts suppliers.
Airbus had planned to ramp up production of the A320 family to 44 planes a month by 2014, from its current target of 42, which the company expects to reach by the end of this year. Airbus, a unit of European Aeronautic Defence & Space Co., now produces 40 planes per month.
Executive Vice President Tom Williams said monthly production of 42 planes was enough and everything would depend on the development of aviation.
Airbus’ main rival also intends to boost Boeing-737 monthly output to 42.
