Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev takes part in opening of the 36 km section of the Gazakh-Georgia state border highway
APA reports that Minister of Transport Ziya Mammadov told the President that as social measures, improvement of road-transportation system in Azerbaijan, construction of new road junctions, and building of highways are the indicators of our country’s economic potential. The works on the road that is being built in accordance with the “Improvement of Gazakh-Georgia state border highway†project started in August of last year. Construction of Gazakh-Sinigkorpu highway carries a strategic importance in the framework of instructions given by President Ilham Aliyev on reconstruction of the country’s highways.
In order to realize the road reconstruction project, an international tender was announced in October of 2007 for selection of the contractor, and Italian “Impressa†company won the bid. The contract was signed on December 24, 2007, with a value of more than 36 million AZN. The main subcontractor of the road is “Akkord†group of companies. Land-improvement works were carried out in 736 thousand cubic meters of land and over 27 thousand cubic meters was asphalted. The width of the double-striped road is 15 meters. Three bridges and eight bus stops were constructed over the road.
This road, that is an integral part of Baku-Georgia border highway, was built at the level of world standards and easy movement of people was fully ensured. Due to that, all obstacles of passenger and cargo vehicles, traveling to Georgia from Azerbaijan and vice-versa, have been eliminated.
President Ilham Aliyev cut the ribbon symbolizing the opening of the road, gave instructions and recommendations after familiarizing himself with the road and had a conversation with representative of “Impressa†company Airoldi Morgan.
