Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. Russia’s flagship car maker AvtoVAZ said on Friday it will recall 10,500 of its Lada cars, mostly from distributors, due to an engine fault. The cars are being recalled due to defective spring washers in the engine, but only a few of the cars had already been sold to consumers, the company said. "The source for the malfunction is being eliminated by the supplier," the firm said. The Belzan plant supplies the spring washers to AtvoVAZ. However, fixing the washers will be expensive as the part is deep inside the engine, an industry source told Reuters. The news comes in the wake of millions of car recalls by Japanese giant Toyota last year. AvtoVAZ, 25 percent owned by France’s Renault, said it sold 517,147 cars in 2010. The Association of European Businesses said last month that January-November sales were up 28 percent year on year, including 45 percent growth at Lada.
