Baku hosts conference on ICT and climate changes

According to APA-Economics, Minister of Communication and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov noted that there was a relevant document for solution of ecological problems in ICT and this document is a “Smart-2020” program, developed by UN and International Telecommunication Union: “ICT’s damages in environment are forecasted to increase from 2% to 4% during next 10 years. The program means to decrease the toxic gases in environment by 15%”.

He also noted that, an association contained 34 countries was established for elimination of these problems.

Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Firdovsi Aliyev noted that, relevant modern equipments were constructed in hydrometeorology sphere, Azerbaijan.

He also noted that, additional measures plan covering 2010-2014, was made for improvement of ecological situation: “At the same time, 6 mln trees were planted in Azerbaijan and 1.5 mln of them were in Baku and Absheron Peninsula. Besides, water cleaning stations were constructed in 18 regions”.

In turn, UN Resident Coordinator Fikrat Akcura noted that, this sector has a positive role in Green Policy: “ICT covers logistics, trade, education and other spheres like these. All of these influence on changing of climate and we intend to work on decrease of this loss to minimum”.

He also informed that, UN is ready to put forward an initiative for close cooperation with Azerbaijan.

According to Head of Department in ITU Arthur Levin, ITU is developing a standard on decrease of ICT’s influence on environment and power consumption.

He also noted that, the operation was directed to decrease the ICT’s damages in environment by 15%.
