New port complex founded in Azerbaijan

Minister of Transport Ziya Mammadov reported to head of state that the construction of New Baku International Sea Trade Port Complex is implemented in accordance to presidentâ€™s order dated back to October 18, 2007.

The port complex has been prepared by the Netherlandsâ€™s company Royal Haskoning. It became the winner of international tender.

The dredging operations in the entrance channel, the shunting of the marine part of the port and design of coastal infrastructure were finished. At present, the port operates to choose modern cranes, machines and mechanisms, that will be applied, and to design modern navigation and communication. The area of 400 hectares was allocated for the construction of the port complex.

Construction will be carried out in three stages: - at the first stage the transshipment of the port complex will amount up to 10 million tons of cargo and containers - 40,000 TEU; - at the second stage the transshipment will hit up to 17 million tons of cargo and containers - 150,000 TEU; - at the third stage the transshipment will hit up to 25 million tons of cargo and containers - 1 million TEU.

The first stage will be completed within 3,5 years..

At the same time an international transport and logistics center is planned to be constructed in port complex. The general plan of center was made and submitted to Transport Ministry.
