"Claiming that a balloon exploded in the cabin of the AZAL aircraft is a mockery of human intelligence. If you look at the tail of the plane, you can easily see that shrapnel entered from the outside," said electronic engineer and captain-pilot Ahmet Izgi in an interview with APA’s Türkiye correspondent.
He stated that the cause of the crash of the AZAL aircraft was that, despite the transponder code being issued by Grozny, the Russian Pantsir-S1 air defense system mistook it for a military aircraft or a drone instead of a civilian aircraft, and subsequently opened fire.
"The second issue is that, when the aircraft urgently requested permission to land, it was denied, and the plane was instead directed toward the Caspian Sea. This raises a significant question, as it seems to be an attempt to erase the traces of the crash," the expert explained.
Ahmet Izgi emphasized that the incident was a serious crime and stressed the importance of punishing those responsible for it.
On December 25, an Azerbaijani Airlines (AZAL) passenger plane operating on the Baku-Grozny route crashed near Aktau, Kazakhstan. The plane had 62 passengers and 5 crew members on board.
As a result of the crash, 38 people lost their lives, and 29 survived.
