The latest hearing in the criminal case against Sultan Gasimov, Azerbaijan's former Consul General in St. Petersburg, who is accused of fraud, has been held, APA reports.
Gasimov's lawyer did not attend today's hearing at the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, presided over by Judge Firdovsi Aliyev.
For this reason, the hearing was postponed until September 30.
It should be noted that the criminal case against the former Consul General was investigated by the Main Anti-Corruption Directorate under the Prosecutor General. It was established that the victims had suffered losses exceeding AZN 200,000.
Anton Zayats and Faig Mikayilov were recognized as victims in the case.
Part of the total damage was compensated during the investigation.
According to the case materials, Sultan Gasimov promised a citizen residing in Russia that he would purchase land through an auction. In addition, he promised another victim that he would transport gold by air to another country.
He was charged under Articles 12.1 and 178.3.2 of the Criminal Code (fraud committed in the territory of a foreign country causing large-scale damage). The investigation into the criminal case was completed, and the case was referred to court. It should be added that Sultan Mahammad oglu Gasimov was appointed Azerbaijan's first Consul General in Yekaterinburg, Russian Federation, in 2009 and was recalled from the position in 2016.
On May 3, 2016, he was appointed Azerbaijan's Consul General in St. Petersburg. He was recalled from this position on October 21, 2024.
