A large quantity of psychotropic substances and narcotics has been found at the customs post, the Press and Public Relations Department of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan told APA.
According to the information, cargo imported from the Islamic Republic of Iran via a freight transport company was inspected using an X-ray device at the "Silk Road" customs post of the Baku Main Customs Department and suspicious markings were observed inside rubber pipes in a black plastic bag.
It was reported that during the inspection, a total of 42 packages wrapped in cellophane were found inside the rubber pipes. 25 of these packages, contained a significant quantity of 983.316 grams of methamphetamine, a psychotropic substance.
As a result of operational-search measures carried out by the Operational and Investigation Department of the Baku Main Customs Department to identify individuals who would receive the psychotropic substance in the country, two foreign nationals who had received the rubber pipes containing the substance were detained and a significant quantity of narcotics, including 16 methadone pills and 1 pill of its residue, was found on them.
In connection with the case, a criminal case has been initiated at the Operational-Investigation Main Department, and the foreign nationals have been charged under Articles 206.3.2 and 234.4-1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan and a preventive measure has been selected about them by the Yasamal District Court with corresponding decisions.
An investigation is underway regarding the criminal case.
