As a result of operational-search measures carried out by the State Security Service (SSS) of Azerbaijan, Georgian citizen Agil Aslanov Goyca and citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Ismayilov Shahin, who had planned a terrorist act against a member of a religious community operating in Azerbaijan, have been detained, APA reports.
In September 2024, Agil Aslanov, who was involved in drug trafficking, met with employees of a special service organization during a visit to a third country through an acquaintance, and these individuals provided Agil Aslanov with photographs and information of a member of a religious community in Azerbaijan and offered 200,000 US dollars for an assassination.
Under a mutual agreement, Agil Aslanov was initially tasked with gathering and relaying necessary intelligence about the community member and their workplace, and for this purpose, he was given a $2,000 advance payment.
After arriving in Baku to carry out the task, Agil Aslanov, along with Jeyhun Ismayilov, whom he involved in the criminal activities for financial gain, worked on gathering information about the religious community member. They sent the location details of the individual’s residence and workplace to a representative of the foreign special service organization using a mobile application.
In connection with the case, a criminal investigation was initiated at the State Security Service under Articles 28, 214.2.1, 274, 276, and other provisions of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The court has ordered pre-trial detention for Agil Aslanov and Jeyhun Ismayilov.
