A large quantity of narcotics has been found in a vehicle traveling from Iran to Russia at the Astara customs post, the Press and Public Relations Department of the State Customs Committee told APA.

It was noted that a vehicle carrying lettuce cargo from the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation, transiting through the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan, was stopped at the import control line of the Astara customs post, and the driver was verbally interrogated. He stated that there were no items hidden from customs control or undeclared in the vehicle he was driving.

During the inspection with a stationary X-ray device, suspicious traces were observed in the trailer of the cargo vehicle, and a customs check was conducted using a canine service.

The service dog reacted to two pallets in the trailer of the vehicle. During the inspection, 308 packages of narcotic substances, weighing a total of 97 kilograms and 280 grams, were found hidden in the form of lettuce, along with the packaging, and concealed from customs control.

A criminal case has been initiated by the Operational-Investigation Department of the State Customs Committee under Articles 206.3.2 and 234.4-1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the preventive measure has been selected about the driver of the vehicle by the court.
