Roundtable on Azerbaijani genocide held
# 28 March 2007 11:46 (UTC +04:00)
Association of Assistance to Development of Civil Society in Azerbaijan organized a roundtable “March 31 is one of the genocide pages of Azerbaijani history”, APA reports. The Association expert Muslum Mammadov said that mass crimes committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis in 1918 have not yet been assessed legally. He also stressed the necessity of carrying out investigations into this theme. Journalist Mammad Nazimoglu said Russian Tsar Peter I laid the foundation of these massacres.
“Armenians and Christians from other nationalities were transferred to these territories by the order of Peter I to weaken the Muslim majority in the Caucasus. Other Tsars continued that policy in different periods. The positions of Armenians strengthened after the Gulustan treaty of 1813. The genocide committed in 1918 should be approached from global point of view. But it is shameful that we did not publicize these bloody events for 70 years”, he said. /APA/
