Local Lemar TV quoted a statement issued by the NSD as saying Saraj alias Abdul Wahid, a member of al-Qaida with the nationality of Azerbaijan was arrested in late December.
The statement failed to give the exact date of the suspect’s arrest and the original nationality. He is expected to be originally from Pakistan or Afghanistan.
According to the preliminary investigation, Saraj admitted that he was en route from Baku, capital of Azerbaijan to Quetta, capital city of western Pakistan’s Balochistan province.
The suspect said after receiving training courses in special training camp, he joined Sirrajuddin Haqani, an al-Qaida-linked terror branch.
Saraj also confessed that he planned to carry out a number of terror attacks in Afghanistan before departing for Pakistan.
