Latif Huseynov gets documents about Eynulla Fatullayev from European Court

Baku. Elbrus Seyfullayev – APA. Lawyer, department chief of the Azerbaijani parliament Latif Huseynov, who will represent Azerbaijan in the hearing on the case of journalist Eynulla Fatullayev in the European Court of Human Rights , got the court materials.

The lawyer told APA that he had not familiarized with the materials sent by the European Court yet. Huseynov said he would soon familiarize with the case and prepare for the hearing. He said it was not known when the process would be held.

Judge of the European Court from Azerbaijan Khanlar Hajiyev refused to attend the hearing on case of Eynulla Huseynov. Azerbaijani side nominated Latif Huseynov as the judge who will attend the hearing.

Court of Grave Crimes sentenced Eynulla Fatullayev to eight-and-a-half-year imprisonment. The editor-in-chief faced charges under Articles 214 (terror threat), 283.2.2 (excitation of national, racial or religious hostility by person with use of the service position) and 213 .2.2 (evasion from payment of taxes with extraction in large amount of income) of the Criminal Code. Baku Appeals Court upheld the decision of the Court of Grave Crimes.

Earlier, Yasamal district court had sentenced Eynulla Fatullayev to two-and-a-half-year imprisonment basing on the suit of Tatyana Chaladze, head of the Committee Defending rights of Refugees and IDPs. The journalist was accused of insulting Khojaly residents in his series of articles “Karabakh diary”.

The European Court will consider both appeals simultaneously.
