Construction of mixed penitentiary facilities in Shaki and Lankaran to finish next year

Baku. Kamala Guliyeva â€“ APA. â€œIt is right policy to transfer the jail from Baku. Almost all jails are in Baku,â€ chief of Justice Ministryâ€™s Human Rights and Public Affairs Department Faig Gurbanov said, APA reports. He said the construction of jails in the regions began in 2007.
â€œA mixed penitentiary complex was opened in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic that year. Baku jail meeting the modern standards was constructed in Zabrat. The construction of these facilities will finish next year. A new jail is being built in Umbaki settlement of Garadagh district. The jail Gobustan will be transferred there. The aim is to make it easier for families, relatives to visit the prisoners, organize the penitentiary facilities in line with the European standards,â€ he said.

Gurbanov said broader opportunities were offered to the prisoners in the new facilities.
â€œOld facilities are closed. Such facilities will also be built in Ganja and other regions. Correctional facilities are being built for juveniles and women in Zabrat. Of course, the above-mentioned facilities will be closed,â€ he said.
