Azer Misirkhanov was reportedly killed during the operations carried out by the U.S. forces against the armed units in Afghanistan. One of the events on the occasion of the Gurban holiday in Afghanistan, which was also attended by Azer Misirkhanov, underwent bombing by the U.S. planes. A lot of people were killed and wounded in the bombing. Azer Misirkhanov was also killed. His family has already been informed about his death. His brother Abbas Misirkhanov told APA that Azerâ€™s wife living in Turkey had informed them about his death.
â€œAzerâ€™s brothers-in-arms told her about it. We do not know when and how he was killed. We only know that he was killed in Afghanistan,â€ he said.

Abbas Misirkhanov said his family members had been called to Sumgayit police office and interrogated in connection with Azer Misirkhanovâ€™s death.

Several operations were carried out against the militants during the Gurban holiday in Afghanistan. At least five militants were killed, 30, including field commander Kari Server were captured in the operations against the armed opposition in Baghlan and Gunduz provinces on November 27. The killed and captured militants were reportedly members of the Islamic Party led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar. NATO military aviation supported the operation. NATO aircrafts bombed the territories where the militants were hiding. At least 26 militants were killed in the shooting with the frontier guards in Khost province on November 29. The majority of them are foreign mercenaries. A Chechen mercenary was seized alive. Azer Misirkhanov, aka Abu Omar Azeri in Afghanistan, was also killed during this operation. Several more Azerbaijanis were reportedly killed during the operation.

31-man organized gang led Azer Misirkhanov will stand trial soon. The preliminary court hearing will be held in the Court of Grave Crimes on December 17.

The operation in connection with the organized gang was carried out by the National Security Ministry. The operation determined that the organized gang having links with the international terrorist network set up an illegal armed unit, planned to violate socio-political stability in Azerbaijan, commit illegal actions aiming to impede the secular and democratic development of the state.

The National Security Ministry issued a statement saying that head of the group Azer Misirkhanov, aka Abdulla, once participated in special exercises and battles with illegal armed groups in various conflict zones. He was detained while illegally crossing Azerbaijanâ€™s state border in 2001 and sentenced. After the term of his sentence expired, Azer Misirkhanov left to participate in the terrorist actions against anti-terror coalition forces.

Rashid Mustafayev, Faig Jafarov, Firdovsi Guliyev, Vasif Omarov, Vusal Isayev, Mahir Allahverdiyev, Elmaddin Farajov, Asif Emikishili, Alkaram Mammadov, Rashad Nabiyev, Tural Hasanov, Jeyhun Aliyev and others acted under Azer Misirkhanovâ€™s leadership.

The members of this armed group organized hiding of Samir Mehdiyev, aka Suleyman, one of the heads of the â€œForest brothersâ€ armed group, who was wanted for the terror attack in Abu Bakr mosque on August 17, 2008.

In September, 2008, Azer Misirkhanov called one of the active members of the gang Rashid Mustafayev to the country he was hiding and met with him. It was also determined that Azer Misirkhanov had planned to violate stability during the presidential elections in Azerbaijan, organize a number of terror attacks and explode Baku-Novorossiysk oil pipeline. Azer Misirkhanov gave instructions to Rashid Mustafayev.

The defendants â€“ Emikishili Asif Tapdig, Mustafayev Rashid Valeh, Jafarov Faig Ahliman, Allahverdiyev Mahir Edif, Guliyev Firdovsi Jafar, Isayev Vusal Isa, Omarov Vasif Sameddin, Farajov Elmaddin Faraj, Mammadov Alkerim Asef, Nabiyev Rashad Farhad, Hasanov Tural Mahammad, Aliyev Jeyhun Ismayil, Alazov Ibadet Mahammad, Khalilov Amil Rza, Ilyasov Kamran Abdulhamid, Karimov Mehdi Alakbar, Druskar Elshan Davud, Mammadov Namig Gasim, Akhundov Teymur Salim, Ibrahimov Arif Namig, Janagayev Elchin Alimat, Farzaliyev Ramil Tofig, Movsumov Fuad Akbar, Mahmudov Rashad Mehman, Akbarov Zeynal Balakhan, Abdullayev Mahir Eyyar, Jami Emin Azizaga and Mustafayev Bakhtiyar Azizbala faced charges under articles 279.1 (creation of armed formations or groups, which are not provided by the legislation of the Azerbaijan Republic, and also participation in their creation and activity, supplying them by weapon, ammunition, explosives, military engineering or military equipment), 29, 214.2.1 (attempt to a terror attack committed on preliminary arrangement by group of persons, by organized group or criminal community), 214.2.3 (attempt to a terror attack committed with application of fire-arms or subjects used as a weapon), 228.2.1 (illegal purchase, transfer, selling, storage, transportation or carrying of fire-arms, accessories to it, supplies (except for the smooth-bore hunting weapon and ammunition to it), explosives on preliminary arrangement by group of persons), 229.2.1 (illegal manufacturing of fire-arms, supplies to it, ammunition, explosives, and also repair of fire-arms on preliminary arrangement by group of persons), 181.2.1 (burglary), 206.3.2 (smuggling of weapons by a group of persons), 234.1 (illegal purchase or storage without a purpose of selling of narcotics or psychotropic substances in a quantity (amount) exceeding necessary for personal consumption), 120 (deliberate murder), 206 (smuggling), 185 (illegal occupation of automobile or other vehicle without a purpose of plunder), 318 (illegal crossing border) and 126 (deliberately inflicting serious bodily harm) of the Criminal Code.
